This map, of the Dutch school, was made by the engraver ALLARD in Amsterdam at the begin of the 18th century. It shows a splendid Italy almost in its true shape, as the cartographic technique used was already quite cultivated and refined. It is a map in which orographic features were purposely left out in order to make room for a greater number of place names, to provide as much information as possible. The longitude lines start from the meridian passing through the Isola del Ferro, at that time conventionally considered their starting point. Sicily is included in a companion map, in order to give the matrix for the print the right dimensions. Realized according to the copper engraving technique it consists of several sheets on cuts of cloth, which improves its maintenance, makes its legibility casier and facilitates the transport.
